“World Without Waste” project results summary

The results of the "World Without Waste" project implemented by Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company Armenia, Yerevan Municipality and Innovative Solutions for Sustainable Development of Communities NGO were summed up.

Gevorg Nazaryan, the head of the Nature Protection Department of Yerevan Municipality, Elina Markaryan, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability director of Coca-Cola HBC Armenia, as well as representatives of the beneficiary schools and other organizations were participating in the closing ceremony.

““World Without Waste” concept is one of the key pillars of corporate social responsibility of “Coca-Cola HBC Armenia”, as the company highly values the formation and strengthening of waste management and recycling culture in Armenia. The company has implemented and continues to implement a number of projects aimed at creating sustainable waste management and circular economy. 

“World Without Waste” project was also aimed at raising awareness, especially among schoolchildren, who once again learned that every bottle has a second life and by only sorting, they give a second life to it”, said Elina Markaryan, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability director of “Coca-Cola HBC Armenia”.

Within the framework of the project, 200 sorting bins for plastic and paper waste were installed in 50 schools of Yerevan, a series of online courses were conducted for more than 2,050 children of 6th grade in selected schools, a workbook for students was developed, as well as trainings of trainers for teachers of 3 selected schools. 

All selected schools have been sorting waste since the start of the project, as a result, about 4000 kg of waste was collected, which was transferred to appropriate recycling station by Yerevan Municipality. Two schools that collected the most waste per student received an award, while one school received a special award for an important social and environmental work.

The project is aimed at improving the waste management system in Armenia by supporting local initiatives, that focus on the implementation of waste collection, recycling culture and practical work. The development of a waste sorting culture among schoolchildren through educational programs is important for the effective behavior of the population and waste management system.
