Plant and production overview
For 21 years now, Coca‑Cola HBC Armenia has been creating and producing products for the Armenian market.
In Armenia we operate a plant located in Yerevan which produces high-quality carbonated and non-carbonated drinks, as well as drinking water products in plastic (PET) and glass packaging. Throughout the years, we’ve focused on creating innovative, high-quality products for our consumers and, by upgrading equipment, maintaining excellent health and safety conditions for our employees.
Our quality standards
Quality and food safety remain our top priorities, to make sure we meet customer and consumer expectations while delivering against our cost leadership commitments.
Our commitment to producing and bottling high-quality drinks is underpinned by the international standard ISO 9001 and ISO 22000, as well as by our own Quality and Food Safety policy and the global standards of The Coca‑Cola Company.
One of the keys to the consistently high quality of Coca‑Cola products is strict production control and quality assurance. We monitor production processes closely and have sophisticated control equipment and testing programmes for key stages of the process. For example, All Surface Empty Bottle Inspection (ASEBI) equipment, installed on the refillable bottling line, can identify even the tiniest irregularity in a product.
Factory quality and food safety remain our top priorities and help us be sure that our consumers can enjoy safe, premium quality products every day.
The production cycle starts with sugar, flavours and concentrate or beverage base. The finished products are packaged in PET or glass bottles, or bag in box.
The water used in the production process is treated to ensure that it is safe and that it contains the correct concentration of naturally dissolved salts, in compliance with desired specific compositional and sensory characteristics.
The syrup is prepared in special tanks by dissolving sugar in the treated water, then filtering the water to remove any impurities. Only after this, this “simple syrup” is mixed with “concentrate” or the various “basic preparations” used for the various drinks, thus becoming “final syrup”. A flash pasteurisation thermal process ensures that even the most sensitive products will not alter their sensory characteristics during their shelf life.
Filling and packaging
The treated and cooled water is mixed with the final syrup and, for sparkling drinks, with the carbon dioxide that gives the product its characteristic effervescence. The drink is then ready to be packaged: every hour, tens of thousands of perfectly clean containers are filled, hermetically sealed, labelled, coded and tested in modern automatic plants. The glass bottles are placed in boxes, while the nonreturnable glass bottles, PET bottles go into various multi-packs.
We aim to minimise the impacts of our business on the environment. At Yerevan plant our efforts are focused on the three areas where we have the greatest impact and can therefore make the most significant contribution. These are water stewardship, energy and climate protection and packaging and recycling.
We set performance targets for each of these three areas on every level of our operations and report our progress annually.
- 15% reduction in water consumption from 2011-2016
- 36% reduction in energy consumption from 2011-2016
- 12% reduction in Carbon footprint of our products from 2011-2016
